His Holiness Kanchi Sri Sri Sri Acharyas Blessings ....

Pathur is a small village situated on the banks of the river ‘Vettaru’ which is 20 Km. away from west of Thiruvarur.
In 8 th century, Tamil Shaiva Siddhanta Poet - Saint Sri Sundaramurthy Nayanar was sailing in a small ‘Parisal’ (A Small Boat) on the river ‘Vettaru’ which is a branch divided from the river ‘Kaveri’. Suddenly Vettaru started expericening flood. Saint Sri Sundaramurthy Nayanar with full of devotion and dedication prayed to Lord Kasi Vishwanathar of Pathur. To his surprise, the ‘Parisal’ came to the river bank safely. The parisal was safeguarded by Lord Kasi Vishwanathar of Pathur only. That is why the village got the name ‘Patrur’ which is latter came to known as ‘Pathur’.

To add feather to Pathur, ‘Upanyasa Chakaravarthy’ Sengalipuram Brahmasree Anantharama Dikshitar and Brahmasree Narayana Dikshitar were born in this small village Pathur.

About 150 years back, the people of Pathur were digging a canal. To their surprise they found the statue (Vigraham) of Goddess, kept the statue under a small roof and started worshipping Her.

One night Goddess (Amman) appeared in the dream of vaikal vettu Sri Subramaniya Iyer, the maternal uncle of Brahmasree Anantharama Dikshitar and ordered to make a small temple for Her. Further Goddess (Amman) ordered to worship Her as their Kuladeivam (Family Deity) and Goddess (Amman) promised him to protect all the people of Pathur. Then all the people of Pathur gathered together and made a small temple for the Goddess (Amman) and made ‘Kumbhabhishkem.’

Since Goddess (Amman) herself made the temple for HER, this Goddess (Amman) has got the name of ‘Sri Alayam Yedutha Amman.’ Now Mr. Muruganandam - who is in fifth generation, is taking care of the temple’s day to day pujas. First Govinapillai, then his son Appavu, then his son Ayyavu, then his son Govindarasupillai and now his son Muruganandam.

In May 2009, the Temple was renovated and ‘Kumbhabhishkem.’ done Since it is more than 14 years, the temple should be rebuilt on priority basis.

On 9th July 2023, ‘Balalayam’ was done by Kumbakonam Sivagama Chudamani Sivasree Prasanna Ganapathy Sivachariyar. With the help of Pathur Panchayat Head Thiru Kesavan, the people of Pathur and devotees of Amman, the reconstruction work of temple has been started.
Many devotees have joined hands with the great goal of constructing a new ‘Garba Graham’ for Goddess (Amman) alongwith construction of Maha Mandapam, Kitchen for making Prasadams for Amman and other deities everyday. Washroom facilities for the visiting devotees and also planting of new trees around the temple are also planned.
