The history of how the Amman, the presiding deity of this temple, took over the temple in Pathur is given below: The ancestors of the present priest, his Patan and his Patan Patan have been worshipping in this temple since then. On that day, the small farmer hired them and appointed them as the first priest. One day, Chinna Pannaiyar had his workers dig a woikkal (canal) for the fields around Pathur. When they dug, bloodstains were found in their soil cutter (Manvetti). Seeing this, the workers immediately informed the police. Meanwhile, his wife fell unconscious in the house. He hurried home, and the divine spirit came to his wife. The spirit declared himself as the guardian deity of Pathur and ordered him to consecrate himself in a north-south direction in a temple and worship daily. After that, Amman took the temple in Pathur on her own, hence Sri is called the Amman who took the temple.
